Istanbul. No other city in the world straddles two continents; nowhere else has been the capital of two empires. This vibrant metropolis of 15 million people, sprawling across the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorus Strait, is unique. Founded by the Greeks, later capital of the Christian Byzantine Empire, Istanbul blossomed anew at the heart of the Moslem Ottoman Empire following its capture by the Turks in 1453.
Canakkale is a city in northwestern Turkey in the Marmara region, on the Dardanelles Strait. It’s a gateway to the Gallipoli WWI battlefields, north of the narrow strait. On the grounds of the 15th-century Çimenlik Castle, Çanakkale Naval Museum Command contains historical artillery. The archaeological site at Troy, including an ancient theater, is southwest of the city.
Mykonos. A picture-perfect Greek island town filled with whitewashed steps and cube houses with blue doors. Narrow marble-clad streets, mazes of quirky shops famed for their gold jewelry, easily accessible trips to admire the historic white windmills on the hillside. This is an ideal port to tour on foot.
Patmos, an Aegean island in the north of Greece’s Dodecanese island group, is a significant Christian pilgrimage site. Its Cave of the Apocalypse is where John of Patmos (St. John the Theologian) is said to have written the Book of Revelations. A fortress-like, an 11th-century monastery dedicated to the saint overlooks the whitewashed houses of the hilltop capital, Hora (also known as Chora).
Kuşadası is a beach resort town on Turkey’s western Aegean coast. A jumping-off point for visiting the classical ruins at nearby Ephesus (or Efes), it’s also a major cruise ship destination. Its seafront promenade, marina, and harbor are lined with hotels and restaurants. Just offshore on Pigeon Island is a walled Byzantine castle that once guarded the town, connected to the mainland via a causeway.
Rhodes. The beautiful old town center is listed as a World Heritage Site. The medieval streets will whisk you back to an era long gone. Rhodes was once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Colossus of Rhodes, and there are many ruins left to explore in remote beautiful locations.
Agios Nikolaos Crete Is a beautiful seaside town, popular among tourists for its beaches and the mild climate all year long: It’s warm, and there’s plenty of sunshine. Built on the northernmost point of Mirabello Bay, the picturesque port town of Aghios Nikolaos welcomes you with beautiful beaches and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Enjoy authentic Greek food by the bay in this town that has existed since the 3rd century BC. Beppu, Japan

Nafplion, Nauplio or Nauplion in Italian and other Western European languages) is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was an important seaport held under a succession of royal houses in the Middle Ages as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia.
