Skjolden is called the gateway to the national parks due to the short distance to no less than three of the most important national parks – Jotunheimen, Breheimen, and Jostedalsbreen. The village is nestled between Northern Europe’s highest mountain pass, Sognefjellet (1434 m.a.s.l.) with spectacular views of the tallest mountains in Scandinavia, and the majestic Jostedal Glacier.
